NEW HEALTH HERO NETWORK PATENT APPLICATION COVERS FOOD INTAKE
Company Continues Filing Patent Applications with 1992 Effective Date

Mountain View, CA - December 16, 2003 – Health Hero Network, Inc., has filed a patent application expanding the intellectual property coverage for key uses of its remote health monitoring platform. The new patent application is based on Health Hero Network’s November 1992 patent 5,307,263 and covers the use of networked remote health monitoring systems to track food intake. The company has recently filed many new patent applications based on the 1992 filing.

According to the American Obesity Association, nearly 200 million Americans are overweight or obese. Obesity poses serious health risks, including increased incidence of high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, stroke and some types of cancer. The new Health Hero Network patent application adds further broad claims regarding uses of client-server systems to collect food intake data from patients. Specifically, the application describes systems directed at collecting food intake data to provide self-monitoring and/or control of afflictions. Such systems can also be used to provide instructional, educational or motivational messages to patients and to produce reports based on collected data for authorized viewing.

“This is a continuation in a series of new applications tapping into the rich technical disclosure of our November 1992 remote patient monitoring patent filing. As is evident from the number of applications Health Hero Network is filing, the 1992 and selected additional filings are tremendous reservoirs of patent potential,” explained Craig Opperman, Chief Intellectual Property Officer and EVP Strategy of Health Hero Network.
