World’s Smallest Blood Glucose Meter Will Connect to Health Buddy® Appliance via Buddylink™ Connectivity
Mountain View, CA - October 30, 2003 – Health Hero Network, Inc. has announced that TheraSense’s Freestyle Flash™ blood glucose meter-the world’s smallest blood glucose meter-will be incorporated into the Health Hero® technology platform for customers using Buddylink™ connectivity. Allowing care providers a way to collect and monitor patients’ vital measurements, Buddylink connectivity enables patients and providers to select from a wide range of home medical devices including weight scales, blood pressure cuffs, and blood glucose meters.
With Buddylink connectivity, objective and subjective data are collected during the patient’s Health Dialogue™ session from their healthcare provider, benefiting the patient by including education, behavior modification, and personalized responses. Providers view their patients’ quantitative vital measurements and qualitative data via the Web-based iCare Desktop™ application. Individualized Health Dialogues will prompt the patient to take their blood glucose measurement during their regular Health Buddy appliance session. The Health Buddy interface will guide the patient through the simple connection of a cable to the FreeStyle Flash meter. Data will be transmitted automatically and the glucose reading will be confirmed on the Health Buddy appliance screen for the patient’s review. Multiple glucose measurements can be reported in one day using Buddylink connectivity. The American Diabetes Association recommends that people on insulin with diabetes test at least four times a day.
The FreeStyle Flash meter, as part of the FreeStyle Flash System, offers patients virtually painless testing and requires the world’s smallest sample size. The FreeStyle Flash meter, which fits easily into a pocket or purse, was designed with frequent testers in mind and includes a fast test time and a lighted test strip port for easy testing at night. Customizable alarms enable creation of custom testing or medication reminders.
Incorporation of the FreeStyle Flash meter into the Health Hero technology platform is pending FDA approval.
