FDA Market Clearance for Peak Flow Meter
Mountain View, Calif. – September 29, 2004 – Health Hero Network, Inc. has announced it has received clearance for enhancements to the Health Buddy® system to better meet the clinical needs of asthmatic patients by incorporating connectivity to peak flow meters. The Health Buddy system has gained 510k market clearance from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for peak flow connectivity to the Health Buddy® appliance, available in October.
As a part of the Health Buddy system, the peak flow meter device connectivity allows patients to take measurements in their home and report the data in a timely and accurate fashion to their healthcare providers. The Health Buddy system with peak flow meter device connectivity eliminates the need for error prone hand-written diaries. Timely access to accurate information for care professionals can facilitate the early identification of changes in a patient’s respiratory status.
Patients using the Health Buddy system for asthma receive a Health Buddy appliance that remotely collects and transmits subjective and objective data on the patient condition, including data from their peak flow meter and other approved medical devices. The Health Buddy appliance delivers a series of disease specific questions, educational content and reminders about important health topics such as exercise and medication compliance. The Health Buddy appliance consistently coaches patients on the importance of compliance to their clinical regimen, and provides a simple solution to transmit their peak flow readings.
