NEW HEALTH HERO NETWORK PATENT CLAIMS COVER HANDHELD DEVICES
Company Continues Filing Patent Applications with 1992 Effective Date
Mountain View, CA - September 29, 2003 - Health Hero Network, Inc., has filed a patent application expanding the intellectual property protection for its remote health monitoring platform. The new patent application is based on the company’s November 1992 patent 5,307,263 and covers fundamental uses and applications of handheld devices in networked remote health monitoring systems. It will be of interest to strategic partners, particularly those making, using or selling handheld devices.
When the new application issues as a patent, it will add a further layer of broad claims covering client-server systems using microprocessor-based devices to collect health-related data remotely from patients. This particular application is directed at display-based, key-operated handheld devices used to monitor patient health conditions and to communicate related data to a central server. These devices can be used to receive instructional, educational or motivational messages from care providers and, together with the remainder of the networked system, to produce reports based on collected data for authorized viewing. The handheld devices can also link to other health monitoring devices such as blood glucose and peak flow meters and blood pressure, pulse, and body temperature monitors.
“This is a continuation in a series of new patent applications tapping into the visionary remote patient monitoring functionality detailed in our November 1992 patent filing. As is evident from even a cursory study of the front page of this early filing, the use and conversion of key-operated, display based handheld devices in remote patient monitoring is a major focus of our early patenting activity,” explained Craig Opperman, Chief Intellectual Property Officer and EVP Strategy of Health Hero Network.
