HEALTH HERO NETWORK FILES FUNDAMENTAL PATENT APPLICATION COVERING ITS TECHNOLOGY PLATFORM
New Claims Based on 1992 Patent Filing

Mountain View, Calif. – August 28, 2003 - Health Hero Network, Inc., the award-winning developer of technology solutions for health monitoring, announced today that it has filed a patent application expanding the patent coverage for its remote health monitoring technology platform. The patent application, which has more than 80 claims, is based on the company’s November 1992 patent 5,307,263 and covers fundamental concepts in today’s networked remote health monitoring systems.

The new application aims to add a further layer of broad claims covering client-server systems using microprocessor-based devices to collect health-related data remotely from patients. In these systems, a care provider can send instructional, educational or motivational messages to patients. Reports, based on collected data, are transmitted to authorized care providers and can also be displayed to patients. Additionally, these systems can link to health monitoring devices such as blood glucose meters, peak flow meters, blood pressure monitors, pulse monitors, and body temperature monitors as well as others.

“This is the first in a series of new patent applications that tap into the rich technical disclosure of the broad remote patient monitoring functionality disclosed in our November 1992 patent filing. The early priority date gives us a huge advantage in what can be considered prior ‘art’ in our field. Coupled with a patent document disclosing so many fundamental concepts in our field, this allows Health Hero Network to file for broad patent protection for our platform,” explained Craig Opperman, Chief Intellectual Property Officer and EVP Strategy of Health Hero Network.

Steve Brown, CEO and President of Health Hero Network, said, “The filing is a further validation of our early innovations in remote health monitoring and behavior modification. This patent application is part of our ongoing program to expand protection for our technology platform.”
