HEALTH HERO NETWORK DELIVERS HEALTH MONITORING TO VETERANS
Veterans Integrated Service Network selects Health Hero technology for Telehomecare program

Mountain View, CA - August 1, 2002 - Health Hero Network, Inc., signed an agreement with the Rocky Mountain Network VISN 19, to conduct disease management programs for patients with congestive heart failure (CHF), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and depression. The VISN 19 Telehomecare Program is based on the Health Hero® technology platform including web-based communication tools and the Health Buddy® appliance for daily in-home health monitoring. With Health Hero technology, VISN 19 plans to provide better service and quality of care to Veterans. The Telehomecare Program has already begun and Veterans in Wyoming, Utah, and Colorado are using the Health Buddy® appliance to communicate with their care providers

“Monitoring patients on a daily basis while educating them to better self manage and understand their chronic condition is a model that will work well for our Veterans”, said Ken Maffet, MD, Chief Medical Officer VHA Network 19. “The present 100 patients we have using the Health Buddy is only the beginning, as we plan to expand its use across our entire network, particularly to include those patients living significant distances from their healthcare providers.”

Through the Telehomecare Program, Veterans receive a Health Buddy® appliance that connects to their phone line and monitors their symptoms, behaviors and health status. The Health Buddy® appliance delivers daily reminders about important healthy lifestyle guidelines such as diet, exercise, and medication compliance to each Veteran. Physicians and care managers will receive and review patient responses on Health Hero’s web-based iCare Desktop™ which automatically flags patients as low, medium, or high risk, providing the opportunity for care manager intervention before a patient’s condition becomes acute.
