Financial Times Cites Health Hero Network Among Leaders in Patent Race

Mountain View, Calif. - June 12, 2003 - In a May 20, 2003 feature article, the Financial Times, quoting a Massachusetts Institute of Technology study, listed Health Hero’s patent portfolio as 15th on its list of “most cited” patents. The article stated, “the frequency of such citations indicates how much new discoveries build on previous inventions and is regarded as indicating the worth of the original patent.”

Health Hero Network has a large portfolio of patents covering innovations in home health monitoring, behavior modification, and Internet technologies.

“This survey validates our long-standing commitment to protecting our company’s innovations through the patent process, and we are pleased to be recognized for it, ” said Steve Brown, Health Hero Network’s President and CEO.

“Patent citation frequencies are an excellent measure of the depth of the technology disclosed in a patent portfolio,” explained Craig Opperman, Health Hero Network’s Executive Vice President, Strategic Development and Intellectual Property. “They also are a powerful indicator of potential value for patent portfolios with still pending, early-date patent applications.”

The study, based on the number of citations in year 2002 U.S. patents, was conducted jointly by M.I.T. Technology Review and patent consultancy CHI Research and can be accessed at http://www.technologyreview.com/scorecards/index.asp.
