HEALTH HERO NETWORK ANNOUNCES PLATFORM EXPANSION
Highlights Solution Partners and Health Buddy® Product Line at American Telemedicine Association Meeting
Mountain View, Calif. - April 28, 2003 - Health Hero Network, Inc., the developer of award-winning technology solutions for health monitoring, has announced several additions to the Health Hero® technology platform. Solution partners from the U.S. and Europe joined the company at the American Telemedicine Association annual meeting for the launch of Buddylink™, a new platform capability allowing patients to upload objective data from devices such as weight scales, blood glucose meters, and blood pressure cuffs. Health Hero is taking orders for the Buddylink weight scale capability now; the blood glucose meter and blood pressure cuff capabilities are pending FDA approval.
In addition to demonstrating the Health Buddy® appliance with the new Buddylink capability, Health Hero displayed Health Buddy® Web and the Health Hero® iCare Desktop™. Several partners joined Health Hero: American Medical Alert Corporation demonstrated its PERS Buddy® device, TheraSense showed its FreeStyle® Blood Glucose Monitoring System, and representatives from Health Hero’s European solution partners were also present.
AMAC is a national provider of remote health monitoring devices and 24/7 communication services designed to promote early medical intervention and improve quality of life for senior, disabled and chronically ill populations. AMAC’s PERS Buddy appliance combines the Health Buddy patient interface with personal emergency response monitoring. The system utilizes the Health Hero Network platform for secure data transfer and provider interaction with patient data. AMAC’s product and service offerings also include Personal Emergency Response Systems (PERS), electronic medication reminder devices, disease management monitoring appliances and 24/7 medical on-call and emergency response monitoring. AMAC operates several National Medical On-Call and Communication Centers allowing patient access to trained response professionals 24/7.
TheraSense manufactures blood glucose self-monitoring systems that dramatically reduce the pain of testing for people with diabetes. The FreeStyle Blood Glucose Monitoring System utilizes patented technologies that accurately measure glucose from a 0.3 microliter blood sample. FreeStyle’s sample size is easily obtained by lancing the forearm, thigh, calf, upper arm or hand and avoids the pain of drawing a larger blood sample from the fingertip. FreeStyle will be the first blood glucose meter to connect to the Health Buddy via Buddylink. The company also offers the FreeStyle Tracker Diabetes Management System, a PDA-based combination FreeStyle Blood Glucose monitoring system and diabetes logbook. The FreeStyle CoPilot Web-Based Data Management System, launched in July 2002, is a complementary data management program to these two products.
