HEALTH HERO NETWORK IMPLEMENTS HIPAA COMPLIANCE PROGRAM
Mountain View, Calif. - April 14, 2003 - Health Hero Network, Inc., the developer of award-winning technology solutions for health monitoring, today announced that the company has implemented a framework to manage its HIPAA compliance initiatives. The company has expended considerable effort in order to be responsive and knowledgeable regarding HIPAA regulations and their impact on our clients.
As a Business Associate of our clients, the HIPAA Privacy Rule mandates that Health Hero enter into Business Associate agreements with any entity receiving Protected Health Information (PHI) while performing functions on its behalf. These requirements establish a standard for securely protecting PHI, including health data and other medical information.
To meet HIPAA regulations, Health Hero has enacted a multi-level approach:
* The company has appointed a Privacy Officer to monitor the effectiveness of HIPAA compliance initiatives and implement policies and procedures to meet HIPAA guidelines.
* A HIPAA review board of management representatives has been established to monitor internal business activities as they relate to HIPAA. The committee develops, maintains and administers training programs regarding HIPAA requirements, privacy and security issues, new policies and procedures for Health Hero employees and contractors.
* Administrative safeguards such as role-based access to PHI, user authentication, automatic log-off, and audit trail logging, are being deployed.
* All employees and sub-contractors have been trained on HIPAA standard operating procedures. Along with training, individuals have access only to data required for their job function as defined by the “minimum necessary” requirement of the Privacy Rule.
Health Hero continues to monitor the development of HIPAA requirements for security, privacy, and other electronic documentation standards, and is committed to ensuring that our products comply with the regulations defined by HIPAA.
